The Power of Woodchucks
The average woodchuck weighs 3 oz in Earth’s gravitational field, and thus masses 0.0850486 kilograms. Times the speed of light squared gives 7.65437*10^15 joules (kilogram meters squared per second squared.) A machine with 61.67 horsepower creates 20 cubic meters of wood chips per hour. One horsepower is equal to 746 watts, so twenty horse power is 14920 watts. One watt is one joule for one second. Thus, off of one woodchuck, the wood chipper would operate for about 16267 years. Over that time, it would create, roughly, 0.924 cubic kilometers of wood chips.
However, if you annihilate the woodchuck using an antimatter woodchuck (an anti-woodchuck, if you will), then you actually get twice that much, because the anti-woodchuck has its own 3 oz of weight that’s also turned into pure energy. So if you stick the woodchuck and anti-woodchuck together, you end up with 1.848 cubic kilometers of wood chips.
